New Purchases: 1986 and Newer

You will need:

  1. Previous Owner's Title. 
    1. If the title is from another state, a T-22B must be completed
  2. Georgia Drivers License/ID reflecting correct address
  3. 30-day binder as proof of GA insurance for the vehicle or electronic submission of insurance if policy is more than 30 days old

Other Supporting Documents indicating a name change, inheritance, liens, etc

***Normally, a dealership or lien holder will apply for the title and send/give the receipt to the buyer. Bring this receipt, along with insurance information to us so that we can either issue a new plate or transfer an existing one.

New Purchases: 1985 and Older

You will need:

  1. Georgia Title if the seller provided one
  2. Bill of Sale, including Vehicle Identification Number, year model, make of vehicle, date of sale and signatures of both buyer and seller
  3. Georgia Drivers License/ID reflecting correct address
  4. 30-day binder as proof of GA insurance for the vehicle or electronic submission of insurance if policy is more than 30 days old.
  5. VIN Verification from GA Law Enforcement (form T-22B)

Leased Vehicles

New Lease (Purchased from Dealer)
  1. A copy of the lease agreement, MV-1 with lease section completed by dealership, a copy of the Bill of Sale and Georgia Drivers License/ID reflecting correct address
  2. 30-day binder as proof of GA insurance for the vehicle or electronic submission of insurance if policy is more than 30 days old

Moving From Out of State
  1. Copy of Out of State Title in the name of the leasing company (when applicable)
  2. Out of State registration with copy of lease agreement
  3. VIN Verification from GA Law Enforcement (form T-22B)
  4. A Power-of-Attorney authorizing lessee to sign on behalf of leasing company
  5. Georgia Drivers License/ID reflecting correct address
  6. 30-day binder as proof of GA insurance for the vehicle or electronic submission of insurance if policy is more than 30 days old

** PLEASE NOTE: ON VEHICLES LEASED OUT OF STATE, TAVT WILL BE DUE

Titles without a Lien holder

You will need:

  1. Title
  2. Georgia Drivers License/ID reflecting correct address
  3. 30-day binder as proof of GA insurance for the vehicle or electronic submission of insurance if policy is more than 30 days old

Moving to Georgia

Titles with a Lien holder

You will need:

  1. Copy of Out of State title if available or Original title if previous state was a non-title holding state
  2. Vehicle owner's and lien information sent from the finance company
  3. Out of State registration in applicant(s) name
  4. VIN Verification from GA Law Enforcement (form T-22B)
  5. Georgia Drivers License/ID reflecting correct address
  6. 30-day binder as proof of GA insurance for the vehicle or electronic submission of insurance if policy is more than 30 days old
Titles without a Lien holder

You will need:

  1. Original title
  2. Georgia Drivers License/ID reflecting correct address
  3. 30-day binder as proof of GA insurance for the vehicle or electronic submission of insurance if policy is more than 30 days old

Military

OOS - Out of State

You will need:

  1. OOS title or copy of OOS title if available and current out of state registration if title is held by lien holder
    1. If the title is held by a lien holder, a VIN verification from GA Law Enforcement T-22B, is needed.
  2. Vehicle's owner and lien information sent from the finance company if title is held by lien holder
  3. 30-day binder as proof of GA insurance for the vehicle or electronic submission of insurance if policy is more than 30 days old
  4. Current driver's license
  5. LES
  6. Active Duty Military ID
  7. Serviceman's exemption affidavit, PT-472NS, if Georgia is not your home of record

Title from a Foreign Country

You will need:

  1. All Overseas Registration Documents: EPA, HS7, CBP7501, DD1252 and T-22B
  2. If vehicle was purchased overseas, a Manufacturer's Statement of Origin must be provided to register
  3. Georgia DL/ID or Out-of-State DL if active duty military
  4. Serviceman's exemption affidavit, PT-472NS, if Georgia is not your home of record
  5. Active duty military ID
  6. LES

*If the vehicle is listed in two names, BOTH owners must be present at the time of registration.

Please note:

*** Title work received more than 30 days from the the original purchase date will be charged a $10.00 penalty.

Trailer Registrations

Trailers with Gross Vehicle Weight under 2,000 lbs
  1. Bill of Sale with Vehicle Identification Number, year model and make of trailer
  2. Georgia Drivers License/ID reflecting correct address
  3. T-22B if Vehicle Identification Number does not come up in the DRIVES system or if chain of ownership has been broken.

Trailers with Gross Vehicle Weight over 2,001 lbs and up
  1. Manufacturers Statement of Origin or previous owner's title
  2. Georgia Drivers License/ID reflecting correct address
  3. Bill of sale with Vehicle Identification Number, year model and make of trailer
Homemade Trailers or Trailers without Serial Numbers
  1. "T-plate", County Issued Vehicle Identification Number (Received at the local tag office for $5.00)
  2. Georgia Drivers License/ID reflecting correct address
  3. Bill of sale if trailer was purchased from someone else
